My time is flying by. I am working generally in the Bibliothèque nationale François Mitterand, though yesterday I went to the Richelieu branch to search a few manuscripts. Being here provides a good opportunity to think about what next, and it seems to me to be pretty clear that I can’t escape Scotland entirely–I simply have too much invested–so I think that I shall continue with my comparative study. I have also found some interesting modern French material about the war between left and right. I have picked up a few books–one of them very heavy–but I am showing great restraint. Weather has been great, though today is a bit wet. My flat is nice and is well situated.
Best wishes to all, A Sleepy Old Bear.
Concur. Emails have been few.
Yes, glad to see the trip is productive. Have been lost in Edmonton for the last four days myself. Hopefully get back tonight, my trip wasn’t nearly as exciting as yours appears to have been but we did buy a new automobile. 2008 Toyota Rav4, might I add the ride is red and kick ass, did i mention itis red. Hope to see you soon David, only two months or so now.
So I had an interesting conversation with Lisa, my wife, the other day. We decided to discuss the finer points of arguing while eating at an english pub in Edmonton. For one reason or the other we stumbled upon the issue of evolution with her in favor and myself against. The arguement went back and forth until I asked her to provide me with proof that we evolved from monkeys, or apes or whatever. She couldn’t and neither could I, at least not convincing arguements, when we thought about it we couldn’t figure out what monkeys would have evolved from and therein lay the problem. I being the coutrteous husband cornered her with me arguement and of course relented when she threatened to prove to me her theory of devolution, not sure what she meant but it sounds scary. This all begs the question, how do we know that evolution actually happens? For instance you could use Darwin’s findings in the Galapogas’ but following conventional science, animals tend to flourish in the environment best suited to them. I see this as adaptation and not evolution, if their environment is taken away then the species dies or adapts, usually the former. I may be arguing semantics but I think the topic is worth discussing, any takers?
If it isn’t true, there goes most of biology and anthropology. Not an expert, merely suggesting you consult with one.
After going cross-eyed for a few minutes I understand what you are saying and I think I may be arguing semantics. Too tired to think right now, screaming at people for 12 hours does that to me.
My job can be stressful and it does not help when I have to train people. Especially people who don’t listen, we run a truck and shovel mine and he almost ran over a power cable that could have killed me and also almost hit a shovel, which would come close to getting me fired. So, I overreacted and yelled at the guy, well screamed. But he got better and I signed him off and now he is doing great. I am happy for him, I remember how much fun it was when I started by myself and didn’t have to train people. Those were the days.
