Sleepy Old Bear Diaries

My courses for the fall term 2008 are now settled.

Posted by: sleepyoldbear on: 4 March 2008

1. Hebrew Bible, Religious Studies 101, Fall Term, 7A and 7B (MW 1330-1445)

Humanities 101, Winter Term, same times.

2. History 260, Reformers, Revolutionaries, and Tyrants (French Revolution to the fall of the Communism), full course (i.e. both terms), 1A and 1B (M 0900-1015 and W 1030-1145).

One and one-half new courses. I was actually supposed to teach Hebrew Bible in my first year here at CBU (UCCB) in 1989, but was drafted at the last minute to teach Humanities. I am looking forward to this course, and also to my new one, 260, which will allow me to provide a world-view different from the perspective of the Leftist Weltanschauung. But one strives to be fair, and to encourage the paying customers (used to be ’students’) to think through the perspectives and to be critical of all. Including that of the instructor.

Again, my thanks to CBU for another course reduction.

Any chance of doing them distance? Cause if so, sign me up. I might not pass ‘em but I sure can pay for them, after all isn’t that what Cash Buysyouadegree University is all about?

Money,money,money…..MONEY! Tell John I will make the cheque out to him personally.

Sorry, Michael, no distance section. I am spending a small fortune fitting out my library, but the material is just fascinating. I hope for a good enrolment of motivated students who don’t mind doing good work for a good grade. Wish you were here … I would certainly welcome you.

By the way, Michael, my unhappiness with CBU in 2006 and my continued resentment about the seizure of my two weeks of salary notwithstanding, I must say that we are continuing to move forward. We have a very good crop of young scholars making real progress in their research and seeking grants for research. The times they are a’changin’ … and this is going to make an ever-more-reputable institution on the Arts side (the Science side is well established). I just hope that enrolment will stabilize.

This I am glad to hear, about the reputation of course. The non-distance offering is a disappointment but I am glad to hear about involved students who like to learn.
