Interesting. I had thought that it was firmly established that scalping was an ancient practice of the North American aborigines – as it was of many of the savage ancestors of Europeans – which was turned to a commercial practice by the British and French offering bounties for scalps. Rather like bounties for wolf pelts, eh?
